gain the greatest benefit
Here are a few guidelines to help you feel at ease, and gain the greatest benefit from your session.
Tell the therapist about areas of your body that are injured, sore or tense.
Specify any medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems, headaches, varicose veins, or recent surgery.
If you have any type of infectious disease such as a cold or flu, or a skin rash, it is important that you be transparent, as a massage will often increase the discomfort associated with these ailment, not to mention can be contagious.
Dress down to your comfort level as you are professionally draped the entire duration of your session. Conservative draping allows for the body to be moved around effectively without any awkwardness.
If you prefer clothing on, Thai massage and movement therapy sessions are recommended instead.
Focus your attention on breathing slowly and intentionally, until it becomes easy and effortless.
Allow the therapist to move your limbs into position. Try to let go, and allow the joints to be limp, and refrain from moving your arms, legs or head unless the therapist requests your assistance.
The therapist is a trained professional who will not do anything to hurt you. However, feel free to speak up if anything the therapist does is too painful or uncomfortable in any way.
Conversation is distracting to you and the therapist. As a good massage requires the therapist’s concentration, please limit talking to feedback about the massage.
Massage is a nurturing and therapeutic treatment for the benefits of health and not an invitation for anything outside of our scope of our professional practice.
You may fall asleep during a massage and this is normal. Typically you will float in between the state of conscious and sleeping.
